Walthamstow indie hip hop heroes The Stow are set to return to the fray with a new EP and a host of gigs and festival appearances over Summer 2011. The new ‘Covers EP’ is released on 27 May and, judging by what we’ve heard, it’s going to be a cracker.

The Stow are a five-piece from in and around E17, and have been going strong since 2009. Haydn, Shi, Gus, Dave and Matt have previously appeared at Camden Crawl, Glastonbury, won Best Live Act 2010 at the Emerging Talent Awards, and they recently headlined the Camden Barfly.

The ‘Covers EP’ sees the band take their signature blend of indie rock and hip hop and build on it. Where their ‘Just Another Band’ EP captured the energy and buzzing ideas of the new band, the ‘Covers EP’ feels more self-confident and comfortable in its space. Shi’s vocals on ‘Love Goes’ are silky smooth, while ‘Give a Damn’ demonstrates that The Stow are never far from laying down a party tune. Our personal favourite is ‘Lifeline’, with some hectic drumming underpinning Shi’s vocals and Haydn’s rhymes. You can check out samples of a few tracks on The Stow’s Soundcloud page here.

The Stow have got a packed touring schedule over the next few months, including The Hope & Anchor (May 26), 333 Old Street (May 27 EP Launch Party), Lockstock Festival in Camden (June 12) and the Hoxton Underbelly (June 25). Full details of their gigs are available here.

Check out the interview that Haydn from The Stow did for Walthamstow Scene a few months back here. To get you in the mood, here’s a video sampler of the EP so you can see what The Stow are all about.
