The owners of Wood Street Indoor Market have linked up with a number of partners to create what seems to be an interesting offer. They are offering 16 indoor market units rent-free for three months from February 2012. There is an open evening for more information on Tuesday 13 December.

Wood Street Indoor Market are working in partnership with Gort Scott Architects, Design for London and London Borough of Waltham Forest on this initiative. The purpose is to renew and reinvigorate the market on Wood Street, a worthy aim and much needed. They are looking for applications from local businesses, creative and community groups, artists, collectors – basically, anyone with an idea of what to use a commercial unit for.

The offer includes a secure unit in the market for three months rent free, with a further three months at half-price rent, plus free wi-fi, water, heating, rates, rubbish collection, use of private toilets and a small kitchen to make a cuppa. Obviously, the idea is that the occupiers will be successful and take on the unit on a permanent basis, although there is no obligation to do so.

It seems like a decent offer, I know there is a vibrant creative community in E17 so it could be a good opportunity to get some space, at least on a short-term basis.

For more information, visit the Wood Street Indoor Market website. The market also has a Facebook page, where you can show them some ‘like’. The Open Evening with more information about the offer is on Tuesday 13 December, 7-8pm, at the market, which is at 98-100 Wood Street, E17 3HX. You can also find out more information by ringing Mellis Howard at Gort Scott Architects on 020 7254 6294.
