An art competition is currently open to local artists to help design a contribution to improving the image of the Wood Street Area of Walthamstow.

The competition is being run by the council and in conjunction with Gort Scott Architects. It is linked in to the Wood Street Indoor Market offer, which has generated a lot of interest locally. The details of the art competition are (this is from the organisers):

Create an original two-dimensional artwork e.g. a photo or motif or doodle or pattern or slogan or any sort of image to best evoke the special qualities of Wood Street.

The top-rated competition entries will be exhibited in Wood Street Market in late January 2012.

A selection panel will choose an overall winning design and this will be screen-printed on 1000 cotton shopping bags to be given away to lucky shoppers on Wood Street.

The winner gets a £200 cash prize (which you could obviously spend at Wood Street Indoor Market!). Details of how to enter and the rules of the competition are on the poster above. Closing date is on the 20th January. Good luck.
