A lot of people like a takeaway curry. In fact, a lot of people LOVE a takeaway curry. When you find somewhere good, you can become devoted to it. So, over a couple of weeks in January and February 2011, we asked you where you got your favourite takeaway curry from. We had a whopping 22 responses!
Forest Tandoori on Wood St was very popular, with five recommendations. It was described as a the “best curry around here” and also a “lovely restaurant to eat in”.
Razmin had four recommendations, including one from us! The chana massala was particularly praised, and the takeaway was noted for being good for vegetarians. On that note, the Star of India was also a winner for vegetarians. The Star was said to have a “wide-ranging menu, fresh ingredients and good cooking”, although it is slightly pricer than other places.
Balti Raj on Wood St and Dhaka Tandoori on Hoe St got three recommendations each. Dhaka Tandoori was described as “tasty and really friendly service”. Balti Raj’s tandoori was particularly recommended and you can order online there as well. However, the person who recommended them also recommended a Chinese takeaway, Oriental Star on St James’ St. Not allowed! This is curries only!
A couple of people recommended Zaffran which, while not based in E17, does deliver to the area. Kyber got a mention, and Rubys on Leyton High Road was one person’s “favourite takeaway in London”. Big talk indeed. Shish Mahal in Leyton also got a shout out.
To round up the rest, Priya on Hoe St got one passionate recommendation. Two people liked Raja on High St, described as having “delicious food, great value for money & fantastically friendly staff”. Baburchi on Leytonstone High St got a mention, as did Curry Cottage opposite William Morris Gallery, although Curry Cottage may have dipped a bit recently. Bengal in St James’ St was another favourite. Last but not least, Cinnamon Leaves on Boundary Road has recently got new owners and we like it – it’s our blog, so it’s getting included!
